Books are IN!
It is a well-known fact that when there were no televisions or computers, reading was a primary leisure activity. People would spend hours reading books and travel to lands far away-in their minds. The only tragedy is that, with time, people have lost their skill and passion to read. Read for our future, read to be better and greater than you are- most of all read for fun. It is time to read again people, read for your life!
I love books; I breathe stories into my soul and let them dance. My fondest memories are reading “Anne of Green Gables”, “Little Women”, “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe” and “Heidi,” Not only do I love books but I want others to love books too. For me urging others to love books is like asking them to like flowers or spring. I can not imagine a life lived without that familiar smell of printed paper that signals that I am about to step away from my mundane, pleasant life and launch into another adventure, in another place and another time.
My whole life I have overheard others say with a sigh- “I hate reading”, “Reading is boring” and my favourite “I don’t read” (I can’t help myself I always ask “Why, can’t you read?”) There is nothing not to like about reading. Reading is a relaxing and effective way to have fun, chill, and get away from it all. You move into someone else's skin for a while, leaving yourself behind. You learn about new things, improve your vocabulary subconsciously and form new opinions. It can be informative, fun, exciting, scary, hilarious and heartbreaking. Reading is anything you want it to be. I love books because I love chocolate, I love chocolate because it is a treat, it celebrates when I am happy, it comforts when I am sad and it allows me to stop and cherish a moment and these are the same reasons why I love books. A library or a bookshop is to me a candy shop of tasty treats that call to me with a siren’s song but I can only consume a few at a time.
Reading is good for you. It is the fruit and vegetables of your mind. It is observed that people who love reading have comparatively deeper thoughts, are better at general conversations and in turn write and express themselves with an increased level of sophistication. It is recommended, by developmental psychologists, to parents, to highlight the importance of reading to their children in the early years. Reading is known to significantly help in developing vocabulary and reading aloud helps to build a strong emotional bond between parents and children. The children who start reading from an early age are observed to have better language skills, and ability to grasp the variances in phonics much better. Reading is smart. Therefore if you’re smart, read. If you want to be smart, read. Being smart is simple and as easy as reading a book.
I would like to state here and now that if you like movies then you will adore books. Movies are just books with moving pictures. There are only two differences between movies and books: one is that the pictures in the movies are just images from another person’s imagination rather then your own and secondly: movies are a second rate way to tell a story.
Never judge a book by its movie. How true is that statement? One of the phrases least said in life is “The movie was better than the book” Why is that? Because books are always better then the flickering images that have been put in front of your eyes, not to create art, activate your imagination or open your mind, just to make some Hollywood guy bucket loads of cash. The Queensland department of Education stated that ‘Reading develops a person’s creativity. Unlike movies where everything is determined by the producer, writer and director, books allow students to create in their minds how a particular character looks like or imagine how a scene plays out. Reading a book therefore, allows a student to exercise and cultivate her/his creative thinking skills. Why see it if you can imagine it? The imagination is the other dimension beyond 3D: so why settle for less?
If you write a book you can live forever, if you read a book you can experience an infinite amount of parallel universes. Readers are travellers in time, who touch dreams and feel the wonder of worlds. A book is like a bee, it takes the pollen from one mind and it carries it to another mind where the pollen becomes nourishing honey, A book takes the dreams of one mind, the writer, and transports them across time and space to another mind, the reader, where it is turned into food for the imagination. The more you read, the better you dream. Walt Disney, a famous dream maker, said “If you can dream it, you can do it.” It stands to reason then that reading will help you dream more, think more and be more.
Outside a dog, a book is man's best friend. Of course inside a dog, it's too dark to read. Reading books offers so much and yet it is something that one can do easily and for free. You can do it in a spare 10 minutes. It is a truly portable entertainment unit that requires only a turned on human mind to work. A book is the ultimate form of entertainment, education and information. When you touch that magic book, the one that speaks to you, it will be your constant companion and stay with you forever helping to shape how you see the world. Borrow them, beg for them, buy them but for your own sake read books.
